NDIS Art Music Therapy

Big news is occurring regarding art and music therapy funding!

Art and music therapy will no longer be classified as a therapeutic support under the NDIS. This means you generally won’t be able to claim these activities as therapy anymore unless it is proved as reasonable and necessary…and is stated in your plan.

However, you are still able to enjoy art and music activities in a few ways!

You will be able to tap into your community participation budget via
individual Sessions at $67.56 per hour with a registered provider or at
a group session rate of $193.99 per hour when there are at least 4 participants with a registered provider.

So, why the Change?

The NDIS is shifting to ensure that all supports are evidence-based and beneficial for improving your functional capacity. While art and music therapy have their benefits—like enhancing emotional well-being and social skills—they currently don’t meet the evidentiary standards required to be classified as ‘therapy’ for all participants.

It’s not over though, as the NDIA is reviewing this further via the NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee. Here’s hoping we get an outcome soon.
