NDIS Counselling
So, NDIS versus Mental Health System supports.
Think of the mental health system as your go-to for treating mental health conditions. It’s all about diagnosis and clinical treatments.
The NDIS, on the other hand, is like your personal cheerleader for non-clinical mental health support. They’re all about boosting your functional ability and long-term recovery related to your disability.
So, how can you get psychology or counselling in your plan?
First, show evidence through perhaps an existing report from a Psychologist, counsellor or OT report, which clearly states how it directly supports the impacts of your listed NDIS disability. The link here is very important.
Explain how it will help build your capacity or maintain your social and communication skills.
And lastly, make sure to clarify in the report why it is not the the responsibility of mainstream mental health services.
An additional tip for you to consider is that if you’re already getting Behaviour Supports, make sure to highlight how this therapy is different to the counselling you are seeking.
