NDIS Foundational Supports

Foundational Supports Update!

What We Know So Far

  1. July 2025 rollout planned, but negotiations between federal and state governments are rocky.
  2. Two types of supports:
    • General: Capacity building, info, and peer support for all
    • Targeted: Lower intensity support for non-NDIS eligible individuals
  3. Potential game-changer for 1.4 million Australians with disabilities under 65 not on NDIS.
  4. Funding drama: 50-50 split agreed, but states concerned about unknown costs.
  5. Government pushing forward despite state resistance.
  6. Election coming up – could throw a wrench in the plans.
  7. Nothing set in stone yet, but proposals include info services, capacity building, and supports for children.

Timeline

The DSS says foundational supports will start rolling out from July 2025, through a ‘phased implementation.’ Maybe don’t bet the bank on it though. I trust my cat to stick to a schedule more than most government agencies. And the states and territories haven’t yet reached agreement over funding for foundational supports.
