NDIS Impairment Notice
The NDIS is rolling out Impairment Notices, a game-changer for participants.
From the 1st of January 2025, all participants will receive an impairment notice when they access the NDIS and when an existing plan is reviewed.
This change recognises people with a disability who have the same diagnoses, may have different impairments that arise from their disability and also different support needs. So instead of focusing on the disability, the focus is on the impairment.
There are 6 impairment categories in the NDIS Act.
Participants will be told which impairment category(s) they meet access for:
intellectual
cognitive
sensory
neurological
physical
psychosocial.
The change to impairments aligns with the new reasonable and necessary criteria which also focuses on only funding the support needs that arise from an impairment.
This means that all evidence for funding requests will need to document how the support need arises from the impairment that is listed.
