NDIS Replacement Supports
Replacement Process Overview
Today, we’re discussing the replacement process for the new definitions of what is an NDIS support. This allows people to apply for funding for certain supports on the ‘OUTS’ list.
Criteria for Replacement
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate that the support: replaces an NDIS support, delivers equal or better outcomes, costs equal to or less than what it replaces, and meets specific rules.
Two Categories of Supports
There are additionally, two categories of supports that can be substituted :
1. Standard commercially available household items.
2. Smart devices like watches and tablets.”
Category 1 Criteria
For standard household items, you must show they address your needs, increase independence, and reduce reliance on support workers.
For smart devices, you need to prove they are necessary for communication or accessibility needs due to impairments.
NDIA Approval Process
Even with evidence, the NDIA can still deny requests. Their decision is not reviewable, so ensure you meet all criteria.
We don’t have details on how to apply yet, but the government plans to design this process with community input. Stay tuned for updates!
