NDIS Yoga and Gaming Supports
You might’ve heard that the NDIS has banned certain therapies, like yoga or gaming therapy.
So, here’s the deal: The NDIS isn’t saying you can’t do yoga or play games as a part of an NDIS service. What they’re focusing on is making sure that what is being provided is charged against the right area of funding.
Here’s what’s allowed:
One…Yoga or gaming used as tools by a qualified allied health professionals during therapy sessions. Many therapists actually use games in their sessions! It’s a great way to build skills and keep things engaging. The key is that these activities are part of a structured, goal-directed intervention led by an allied health professional.
And two….yoga or gaming as part of a community-based program which is charged at community access rates. Just remember, if there are extra costs not covered by the hourly rate (like bowling fees), you’ll need to cover those yourself.
And now, here’s the items that are not allowed:
Standalone general yoga or gaming sessions marketed and charged as “therapy”. These are not evidence based as therapeutic interventions…so they are not allowed to be charged as therapy.
